FISHING IN TRADITIONAL MANNER AT PALUMEU (period August - April)
Suriname, situated on the North-East coast of the continent, between Guyana and French Guiana, and considered by many the most enchanting country of the Americas with numerous rivers and an abundance of fish, which makes this country perfectly suitable for fishing in brackish and freshwater. During the months August until April, a period marked by a high concentration of various different types of fish, it is ideal to fish on the METS holiday resort at Palumeu, situated on the Upper Tapanahony river, a beautiful location in the Amazon rainforest where you can escape all day-to-day worries. The inhabitants of this area belong to the fascinating Amerindian tribes, the Trios and the Wajanas. They will proudly show you their living area and show you the best fishing spots along the rivers where you can catch among others, Anjoemara (hoplias macrophtalmus), Kumalu (mylueus rhomboidalis), Morocco (brycon facaltus mull. et trosch) and Spikri Kati, to your heart’s content. The various fishing trips take you on the rivers in dug-out canoes with outboard engine where you can fish, directly from the boat or from the river banks or in the rapids. For those interested, the local Amerindian guide will gladly show you how they catch fish in the traditional manner: with arrows. You will overnight in a simple but comfortable camp and sleep in hammocks while the unique sounds of the forest will lull you to sleep and howler monkeys announce the new day. All this is part of the fishing trip such as you have never before experienced, in the pristine Amazon rainforest under guidance of very skilled fishers. A second option is fishing at Kabalebo Nature Resort, situated in the Mid-western part of Suriname. No humans live in this nature area and the so-called 'catch & release' is applied here while fishing. The Kabalebo river offers a sure guarantee that you will catch the much favored Anjoemara or the Red Tailed Catfish.
