METS and Tjong A Hung Consulting offer a few training sessions to progressive companies that wish to combine management training and an adventurous environment in a constructive and positive manner.
Natural environment The selected locations are Palumeu and Awarradam, two Jungle Lodges situated in the beautiful interior. 1. Jungle lodge Palumeu is located at walking distance from the Amerindian village with the same name, about one hour by small airplane (270 km) south of Paramaribo. The two indigenous (Amerindian) tribes, the Trios and Wajanas, live there peacefully together (approx. 200 inhabitants) and they can only be reached by airplane or dug-out canoe. The comfortable lodges with a beautiful view over the Tapanahony river offer sleeping accommodation for 24 guests, in beds with mosquito nets. The rooms offer double occupancy and have a private shower and toilet facility. The training sessions are largely conducted in the open (no walls) recreation facility near the bar and dining facility.
2. Jungle lodge Awarradam is built on an island in the rapid with the same name in the Gran Rio river. You will be the guest of the Saramaccans, one of the largest tribes of the descendants of runaway slaves, the Maroons. During your stay you will learn more about their multi-facetted culture and impressive history. The jungle lodge offers sleeping facilities for 30 persons in two-person cabins, built in traditional style, with beds with mosquito nets, shower and toilet facility as well as snug hammocks on the balcony of your cabin. Here also, the training sessions are conducted in the open recreation facility near the bar and dining facility.
Management training sessions The training are conducted in both In-Company (for one company) and Open-Market (open for enlisting) style. The offered balance between theory and practical training (commonly through working out of ‘cases’) is about 50-50. One training takes approximately 16 hours and is divided over four sessions of four hours each. The 5 tailor-made training courses are: 1. Marketing & Sales 2. Coaching 3. Strategic Management 4. Effective Project Management (EPM) 5. Management skills
The possibility to adjust the contents of the training or shift the accents for a particular company is always available provided that such is notified to us in time.
Within the offered program, time is kept free to enjoy the natural surroundings and certain training sessions that are suitable for such are conducted in an adventurous manner with environment and local culture intertwined.
Both local and foreign companies are welcome to experience this unique opportunity which of course is subject to different programs.
For local companies The departure days of METS to Palumeu and Awarradam by airplane are Mondays and Fridays. For local companies the stay at the jungle lodges is usually more easy to realize from Friday to Monday because employees only need to take a two-day leave. On Friday, you depart at about noon to your destination whereby the flight takes approx. one hour from local airport Zorg en Hoop. At Palumeu the arrival by airplane is directly at the accommodation lodges while at Awarradam a half hour trip by dug-out canoe takes you from airstrip Kajana to the jungle lodge. The various training sessions (with certain adventurous parts in them) are conducted as much as possible in such a manner that Sunday is kept free to explore beautiful spots not far from the lodge. The various training sessions (with certain adventurous parts therein) are organized as much as possible in such a way that the Sunday is kept free to explore beautiful spots further from the lodge. At Palumeu, the Mabuka rapid, and at Awarradam the Grandam rapid, each lie at approximately one hour and 15 minutes from the lodge and they are truly worth a visit. Also, a walk through the village and a presentation of local music and dancing can be enjoyed so that next to your training you also learn more about the local culture. On Monday, you fly back to Paramaribo, usually early afternoon after a unique cultural experience while you have at the same time learned more about a few arts and crafts skills.
For foreign companies For foreign companies it is for example possible to arrive in Suriname on Sunday and stay at one of the jungle lodges from Monday to Friday to follow a training. After your arrival back in Paramaribo on Friday you can do a City Tour on Saturday to learn more about the rich history and architecture of the wooden capital. On Sunday, you fly back to your country of origin.
The possibility for a combination trip is also possible. You arrive on Sunday, depart to one of the jungle lodges on Monday, follow a training and fly to the other lodge on Friday. There you follow another training and return to Paramaribo on Monday. On Tuesday you can then fly back to your home country.
Finally: the program will be further filled in if all other significant details are known such as flight times, which group will follow which training, possible special wishes regarding the training itself etc.
