3 nights Palumeu Tour (Friday - Monday) Day 1 Departure by airplane from local airport Zorg en Hoop to the airstrip near the Amerindian village Palumeu, approximately 75 minutes south of Paramaribo. Upon arrival you meet our friendly personnel. Jungle lodge Palumeu has the same name as the nearby village of the Trio and Wajana Amerindians. After your check-in in your cabin, you visit the beautiful Palawa island for a picnic lunch and to swim and relax in the cool river water. In the afternoon, the guide will take you to the Amerindian village Palumeu where you learn more about the current lifestyle and handicraft of the Amerindians, the oldest inhabitants of the Amazon rainforest. Back at the jungle lodge you will soon recognize the eco-tourism starting points of our resort. Our personnel are skilled Trio and Wajana Amerindians, your jungle lodge is built in traditional style and while the cool evenings make air conditioning and a fan unnecessary, you do enjoy the comfort of a mosquito net.The evenings are spent in an atmospheric ambiance with solar fueled lighting lamps and the meals are prepared with primarily local ingredients. After dinner, the guide will tell you more about the Amerindian culture. Day 2 After you wake up in the morning, probably by the call of howler monkeys, you will depart after breakfast for an adventurous walk to Poti Hill, a granite hill which you will climb. During the trip by dug-out canoe on the Tapanahony river and the sturdy walk you will have made your acquaintance with the tropical rainforest and the guide will provide information about the flora and fauna. At the top of Poti Hill your efforts will be well rewarded with a magnificent view over the jungle. During the return trip to Palumeu where lunch will be served, you must keep an eye out for a chance to see animals along the banks of the river such as otters. High in the air you may also spot macaws, parrots or a toucan flying over. In the afternoon, the best ‘bow and arrow shooter’ of the village pays you a visit to teach you the tricks of the trade after which you can try your own hand at it. Day 3 Today you will make a trip by dug out canoe to the Mabuka rapids to enjoy the day with relaxing in the rapids, swimming in the river, make a forest walk with information about the trees, plants and animals or just relax in a hammock. A delicious BBQ lunch will be prepared and served on location. After dinner, you will make a boat trip by night on the river. Take your flashlight along – you may spot the red eyes of a crocodile or the eyes of another nocturnal animal. Day 4 After breakfast, the guide takes you to the village for an extensive walk through the village. On the way you have the opportunity to buy handmade souvenirs. After lunch, your return flight to Paramaribo. For those who choose the 4-night program (Monday – Friday) Day 4 In the morning hours, the guide takes you on a jungle hike with information about the flora and fauna in the tropical rainforest and a visit to agricultural plots where you receive an explanation of how the land is cultivated. In the afternoon you can enjoy paddling in a dug-out canoe, swimming or just relax in a hammock and enjoy the peacefulness and sounds of the tropical rainforest. Day 5 After breakfast, departure for an extensive walk through the village. On the way, you have the opportunity to purchase handmade souvenirs. After lunch, your return flight to Paramaribo.
